When I first learned the Spanish words for Thanksgiving it seemed like quite a mouthful. Thanksgiving Day in the United States of course is the holiday that we celebrate on the Fourth Thursday of November. It is a day to give thanks for all of the blessings that we have been afforded here. The freedom, the opportunity and just life itself.
In spanish, Thanksgiving day is "el día de acción de gracias". Literally the day of the action of thanks. To wish someone a Happy Thanksgiving in Spanish you simply say "feliz día de acción de gracias!" In that way it is very similar to wishing a happy birthday (feliz cumpleaños) or Merry Christmas (feliz navidad).
If you want to try your hand at a bit of Thanksgiving Day history reading in Spanish, take a visit over to This wikipedia article which is a good coverage of el día de acción de gracias y la historia del dia (and the history of the day).
¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias!
